Read across from L-arginine to L-arginine-HCl is performed. The justification for read across is given in the endpoint summary of section 5 of the IUDLID-File as well as in the toxicokinetic statement in section 7.1 of the IUCLID-file.

L-arginine showed 100% degradation (HPLC) after 28 days in a study according to OECD 301C and therefore can be considered as readily biodegradable.

The supporting studies also indicate that L-arginine is readily biodegradable.

In accordance with Annex IX sections 9.2.1.2 to 2 and section 9.2.1.4 columns 2 simulation tests on the biodegradation in surface water or sediment as well as soil are not necessary due to the ready biodegradability of the substance.
