In an inherent biodegrability study (OECD 302B, GLP compliance) SIM-Ester was incubated with activated sludge for 28 day. The DOC (dissolved organic carbon) removal is measured indicated a mean percentage biodegradation (based on DOC decrease) of 10% by the end of the test. This shows that SIM-Ester is not readily bioderadable.

The result is supported by the outcome of a modified MITI Test (OECD 301, reported in the Japan chemicals collaborative knowledge database) in which SIM-Ester was considered to be not ready biodegradable.
