Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 13320 (Particle size analysis - Laser diffraction methods)
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 110 (Particle Size Distribution / Fibre Length and Diameter Distributions - Method A: Particle Size Distribution (effective hydrodynamic radius)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Laser diffraction is used for determination of particle size distribution. The sample is dispersed in air or liquid. The laser passes through the dispersion media and is diffracted by the particles. The image of diffraction produced by the particles is measured, and particle size distribution is calculated using Mie theory of light scattering.

Conclusions:
D(10): 1 µm; is the diameter where 10% of the volume distribution is below.
D(50): 60 µm; The volume median diameter is the diameter where 50% of the distribution is above and 50% is below.
D(90): 478 µm; is the diameter where 90% of the volume distribution is above.
Particle size distribution: 0-5 µm: 29%, 5-10 µm: 8%, 10-100 µm: 21%, >100 µm: 42% (% volume)
Executive summary:

The test item was assessed for particle size distribution by laser diffraction method. A Malvern apparatus was used, the sample was dispersed in air. The image of diffraction produced by the particles was measured, and particle size distribution was calculated using Mie theory of light scattering. The results are:

D(10): 1 µm; is the diameter where 10% of the volume distribution is below.

D(50): 60 µm; The volume median diameter is the diameter where 50% of the distribution is above and 50% is below.

D(90): 478 µm; is the diameter where 90% of the volume distribution is above.

Particle size distribution: 0-5 µm: 29%, 5-10 µm: 8%, 10-100 µm: 21%, >100 µm: 42% (% volume)
