Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Propyl chlorformate is non mutagenic in the Ames test.

Additional information

In a reverse-mutation bacterial assay (OECD TG 471), S.typhimurium strains TA98, TA100, TA1535 and TA1537 were exposed to PrCF at dose levels of 0.0005-5µL/plate with and without metabolic activation. No increase in the number of revertants was detected in any strain with and without metabolic activation. Vehicle controls and positive controls were valid. Cytotoxicity was observed > 0.002-0.005 µL/plate (without activation) and ≥ 0.3 – 0.5 µL/plate (with activation). No precipitation was reported. PrCF was not mutagenic in this assay (BASF, 1988).

Chloroformates are neither oxidizing nor crosslinking substances. Several chloroformates have been tested negative in E.coli WP2 uvrA (e.g. isoprpyl chloroformate, CAS 108-23-6)

Justification for classification or non-classification

Propylchloroformate is non mutagenic based on the result of the Ames test. No classification is needed for this endpoint. Classification is according to the legally binding classification in Annex VI to EU Regulation 1272/2008.
