Determination of flammability (A10)

The test substance pile could not be ignited. In contact with flame, EA-3098 melted. No change of test substance colour was observed during the experiment.

Because no burning along 200 mm within 4 minutes was observed, no further testing was required.

Determination of flammability (contact with water) (A12)

The structure of EA-3098 does not contain groups that might lead to evolution of highly flammable gases in dangerous quantities when coming into contact with damp air or water. Furthermore, no metals, transition metals, boron or silicon are present.

No spontaneous ignition took place and no significant evolution of gas occurred in the experiment performed where double distilled water was added to a small amount of test substance (0.5 g/50 ml).

Determination of flammability (pyrophoric properties) (A13)

The molecular structure of EA-3098 does not contain any chemical group that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air.

In addition, experience in handling occurred during other studies (e.g. A10 study) showed the substance does not ignite spontaneously after coming into contact with air at room temperature.

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
EA-3098 is non flammable.
Executive summary:

The determination of the flammability of EA-3098 was performed in accordance with the following test guidelines:

  • 92/69/EEC Method A10 - "Flammability (solids)"
  • 92/69/EEC Method A12 - "Flammability (contact with water)"
  • 92/69/EEC Method A13 - "Pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids"

For flammability, solids (Method A10) the test substance could not be ignited. In contact with flame, the test substance melted. No change of test substance colour was observed during the experiment. No burning along 200 mm within 4 minutes was observed.

EA-3098 is not highly flammable according to Method A10.

For flammability (contact with water - Method A12), based in its molecular structure and on an experiment, it was concluded that EA-3098 is incapable of developing a dangerous amount of (flammable) gas in contact with damp air or water.

For flammability (pyrophoric properies - Method A13), based on its molecular structure and on experience in handling, it was concluded that EA-3098 is not pyrophoric.

Conclusion

EA-3098 is not flammable.

Description of key information

EA-3098 is non flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The determination of the flammability of EA-3098 was performed in accordance with the following test guidelines:

* 92/69/EEC Method A10 - "Flammability (solids)"

* 92/69/EEC Method A12 - "Flammability (contact with water)"

* 92/69/EEC Method A13 - "Pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids"

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on experimental data and experience in handling, EA-3098 is considered to be non flammable and does not meet the criteria for classification as a flammable substance.
