A weight of sample was more appropriate to use in the test procedure instead of volume, due to the viscous nature of the test material. The weight of sample taken in grams is approximately equivalent to the volume of sample taken in millilitres, as estimated from the density value of 0.98 kg/dm3 determined in Harlan Laboratories Ltd project number 2257/0060. The data showed that the variation in the weight of sample taken (caused by the viscous nature of the liquid), was not a significant factor in the determination of the flash point, because all three samples tested at 211 °C caused a flash, while, the two samples tested at 210 °C in addition to the two samples tested at 209 °C, did not cause a flash.

The flash point of the test material has been determined to be 211 ± 2°C.
