Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The oxidizing properties of the test substance are assessed in a GLP study according to internationally accepted guidelines. The burning time of several mixtures of cellulose + test substance was compared with those of equal amounts of cellulose + potassium bromate mixtures.

The mean burning time of mixtures of 4:1 and 1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio (by mass) was more than the mean burning time of a 3:7 reference mixture (by mass) of potassium bromate and cellulose. It can therefore be concluded that the test substance has no oxidizing properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available test results show that the test substance in a mixture with cellulose 4:1 and 1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio (by mass) had a longer mean burning time than the 3:7 reference mixture of potassium bromate and cellulose. As a consequence, in accordance with the criteria described in Regulation EC 1272/2008 (CLP), classification as an oxidizing solid is not required.
