Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to fish
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
from Sep. 18, 1989 to Nov. 15, 1989
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Remarks:
OECD guidline test with GLP, but no purity given
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 203 (Fish, Acute Toxicity Test)
GLP compliance:
yes
Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
daily
Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
The weight of the substance in water was stirred on a magnetic stirrer for about 24 hours (milky opaque suspension). At neutralization becoming necessary at the start of test, the result was an almost full solution. After 24 hours no substance residues were visible any longer.
Test organisms (species):
Danio rerio (previous name: Brachydanio rerio)
Details on test organisms:
Origin: West Aquarium (Bad Lauterberg)
Date of birth: June 08, 1989
Date of delivery: Aug. 31, 1989
Length: 2.5 - 3.5 cm
Maintenance or dilution water: synthetic sweet water acc. to ISO
Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
yes
Total exposure duration:
96 h
Hardness:
12.5 dH
Test temperature:
22.2 - 22.6 °C
pH:
6.9 - 7.2
Dissolved oxygen:
87.1 - 96.0 %
7.4 - 8.1 mg/L
Salinity:
Calcium/Magnesium ratio was 68.0 mg/L / 11.0 mg/L
Nominal and measured concentrations:
nominal: 10000 mg/L
measured: ± 20 %
Details on test conditions:
Test aquariums 300×135×200 mm
5 L test medium
areated
Method of application: direct weighing-in of the sample
Reference substance (positive control):
no
Key result
Duration:
96 h
Dose descriptor:
LC0
Effect conc.:
>= 10 000 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Details on results:
No mortality happened at the test duration of 96 h at the concentration of 10000 mg/L and control.
Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The LC0 was >= 10000 mg/L (nominal conc.) based on the test result. The LC50 was determined to be >= 10000 mg/L (nominal conc.).
Executive summary:

The test was performed to determine the acute toxicity on fish of test substance according to OECD 203 under GLP compliance. The test concentration of 10000 mg/L was set with a control. The test result showed no mortality happened at the test duration of 96 h at the concentration of 10000 mg/L and control. Thus, the LC0 was >= 10000 mg/L (nominal conc.) based on the test result.

Description of key information

The short-term toxicity to fish was determined in an OECD guideline study. The LC0 value was determined to be >= 10000 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The available acute fish test was performed according to OECD 203 under GLP compliance. The test concentration of 10000 mg/L was set with a control. The test result showed no mortality happened at the test duration of 96 h at the concentration of 10000 mg/L and control. Thus, the LC0 was >= 10000 mg/L (nominal conc.) based on the test result.
