Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The molecular structure of the test substance does not contain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air. The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facilities, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From 21-11-2022 to 21-11-2022
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks:
3 replicates
Remarks on result:
other: After applying the flame to the sample, the sample melt. The sample ignited but the combustion is not propagated to the next part of thr train. Result: NEGATIVE

Table 1. Results of preliminary test

Test numberTime of buirning (s)Comments
Test-1-After applying the flame to the sample, the sample melt. The sample ignited but the combustion is not propagated to the next part of thr train. Result: NEGATIVE
Test-2-
Test-3-
Interpretation of results:
other: Not classified (CLP Regulation EC no. 1272/2008)
Conclusions:
The tested material is not highly flammable in accordance with EU method A.10. criteria.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test item was determined according to EU Method A.10 (GLP study). In the preliminary screening test (3 replicates), after the ignition the sample ignited but it burned only for 5 s in the place of applying of burner flame. Combustion was not propagated along the all train. Thus, the result was negative and it was not necessary to conduct the burning rate test. The tested material is not highly flammable.

Description of key information

Flammability: Key study. Test performed according to EU Method A.10, GLP study. The test item is not highly flammable.

Pyrophoric properties: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary / other information available): Practical experience in manufacture and handling shows that the substance does not ignite spontaneously on coming into contact with air at normal temperatures.
Flammability in contact with water: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary / other information available): The substance is not classified as flammable in contact with water based on the experience in handling / use which shows that the substance does not react with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data, the substance is not classified as flammable solid according to CLP Regulation no. 1272/2008.
