- Executive summary:
A test according to EC Method A.17 has been performed with the substance. As a result, the maximum burning rate of the mixures of the test item and cellulose (1.02 mm/s) was lower than the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture of cellulose and barium nitrate (1.58 mm/s). Due to the fact that the mixture of the test item with cellulose burned slower compared to the reference mixture it was concluded that the test item had no oxidizing properties.

Preliminary test:
Three test mixtures with the test item and cellulose 2:1 burned down completely in 181 s, 221 s an 200 s, respectively.
Three test mixtures with barium nitrate/cellulose 2:1 burned down completely in 63 s, 61 s and 57 s, respectively.
Due to the results of the preliminary test the main test had to be performed.
Main test:
Four tests were performed for the reference mixture (barium nitrate and cellulose) with 50, 55, 60 and 70 wt. % oxidizer (barium nitrate). The results are shown in Table 1.

The highest burning rate of 1.58 mm/s was found for the mixture with 60 wt. % oxidizer.
Mixtures of the test item with cellulose were prepared in between 10 and 90 wt. % of the test item and tested. Table 2 shows the results.

Due to the fact that the maximum burning rate of the mixtures of the test item with cellulose is lower than the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture, six tests were performed only with the three mixtures (10, 20 and 60 wt.% of the test item) with the highest burning rates to verify these values (see Table 3).

Each mixture was measured 6 times. The mean burning rate for the mixture with the highest burning rate (10 %) was 0.98 mm/s. The difference between the mean burning rate and the maximum burning rate was <= 10 % for this mixture.
The maximum burning rate of the mixtures of the test item and cellulose (1.02 mm/s) was lower than the maximum burning rate of the reference mixture of cellulose and barium nitrate (1.53 mm/s).
Due to the fact that the mixture of the test item with cellulose burned slower compared to the reference mixture it was concluded that the test item has no oxidising properties.

Oxidising gases

Justification for classification or non-classification
Based on the chemical structure and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance is not considered to be classified for oxidising properties.
