Specific details on test material used for the study:
The material isolated in the publication corresponds to the mixture of isomers described in the registration dossier.
Boiling pt.:
>= 29 - <= 41 °C
Remarks on result:
other: the BP was found dependent on the proportion of the two isomers

The fraction with boiling point 41°C contains 95-97% of the cyclic isomer tetrafluoro-2-hydroxyethanesulfonic β-sultone and 3% of the linear isomer difluoro(ftuorosulfonyl)acetyl fluoride.

The linear isomer difluoro(ftuorosulfonyl)acetyl fluoride at 100% had a boiling point of 29°C.

Composition was confirmed by chromatographic analysis.

Conclusions:
The product obtained by the reaction of fluoroolefins with sulfur trioxide can be affected by the conditions of temperature and time and result in a mixture of two isomers: cyclic tetrafluoro-2-hydroxyethanesulfonic β-sultone and linear difluoro(ftuorosulfonyl)acetyl fluoride. The proportion of which can be modified with time and temperature, resulting in a decrease of the boiling point from 41°C to 29°C.
Analysis confirmed that the fraction with boiling point 41°C contains the cyclic isomer tetrafluoro-2-hydroxyethanesulfonic β-sultone 95-97% pure, and the low boiling point fraction with BP 29°C consisted of pure linear isomer difluoro(ftuorosulfonyl)acetyl fluoride.

Description of key information

Based on boiling points determined for the individual constituents taken isolated, the boiling point of the reaction mass is between 29°C and 42°C, and is dependent on the proportion of each isomer in the reaction mass (the linear form, with the lower boiling point, becoming the predominant constituent in the reaction mass of isomers over time).
