Description of key information

The determination of the inhibition of respiration of activated sludge exposed to the test item n-HEPTANAL was performed following the described in the OECD guideline 209.
n-HEPTANAL showed only a slight effect on the respiration of activated sludge. In the conditions of the test, EC50 – 3h and EC10 – 3h are respectively equal to 580 mg/L and 110 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
580 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
110 mg/L

Additional information

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of heptanal on bacteria according to the OECD guideline 209 “Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test”.The effect is assessed by measuring the micro-organisms respiration rate on a sample of activated sludge during an incubation period of 3 hours. Heptanalhowed only a slight effect on the respiration of activated sludge in the conditions of the test. EC50– 3h was estimated at 580 mg/L and the EC10 was estimated at 110 mg/l.
