The substance is not considered to be persistent. A Closed Bottle test carried out with linear triamine C12-18 in the presence of silica gel did not lead to a false negative result and thus to a fair interpretation of the biodegradability. A ready biodegradability test result with branched triamine C12 was obtained with a very low initial test substance concentration. The adequate ready biodegradability test result obtained and the scientific evidence that consortia of hydrophilic moiety and alkyl-utilizing micro-organisms through a joint biodegradation pathway degrade all triamines, alkyl lead to the conclusion that all triamines, alkyl are readily biodegradable.

The substance has a low bioaccumulation potential based on a measured log Kow of -0.3 for both the Oleyltetramine and cocotriamine using the slow-stirring method (OECD 123). A BCF is calculated of 3.162 L/kg ww for the alkyl-dipropylene triamines and tripropylene tetramines assuming no metabolism as a worst-case.

Based on the available ecotoxicity data it is concluded that the T criterion is not fulfilled for the Oleyl dipropylene triamine however based on the classification STOT-RE category 2 the substance is to be classified as toxic.

The substance has a low vapour pressure, low water solubility and is cationic under environmental conditions and due to that sorbs strongly to soil, sediment and sludge.
