- Category contains ethyl, isopropyl, butyl and 2-ethylhexyl esters. The number of carbon atoms in the fatty acid chains (all even-numbered) ranges from C8-C22. The total number of carbon atoms ranges from 15 to 26.
- Category rationale:
- The category comprises of ethyl, iso-propyl, butyl and 2-ethylhexyl esters, hence the alcohol moiety contains 2-8 carbon atoms. Altogether, the total number of carbon atoms varies between 15 (isopropyl dodecanoate, CAS No. 10233-13-3) and 26 (ethylhexyl octadecenoate, CAS No. 26399-02-0; this substance or its hydrogenated analogue ethylhexyl octadecanoate are also present in three UVCB chemicals: CAS No. 135800-37-2, 91031-48-0 and 85049-37-2). All category members contain only even numbered fatty acid chains, from C8 to C22. In each of 4 subclasses, physico-chemical data aligns in trends with respect to the number of carbon atoms in acid moiety; there are also observed general trends related to the total number of carbon atoms.
