Description of key information

Under the conditions of these tests Cobratec 435 did not exhibit explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

(a) Thermal sensitivity (effect of flame)

No fragmentation of the steel tube occured in any of the six tests. Butyl benzotrieazole sodium salt was found not to explode under the effect of flame (limiting diameter >1.5 mm).

Diameter of orifice (mm)  Sample mass (g)(1)  Time until reaction (s)  Results
 2  28.3 (2)  96   No fragments, tube unchanged
 2  28.5 (2)  99    No fragments, tube unchanged
 2 28.3 (3) 60     No fragments, tube unchanged
 6  28.4 (4)  49    No fragments, tube unchanged
 6  28.6 (4)  53    No fragments, tube unchanged
 6  28.3 (4)  49    No fragments, tube unchanged

(1) Total heating time 300s

(2) Smoke was observed

(3) Smoke and venting sounds were observed

4) Venting sounds were observe

(b) Mechanical sensitivity (shock)

Butyl benzotriazole sodium salt did not explode or burst into flames in any of the six tests. the test compound was therefore found not to be sensitive to shock (sensitivity >40 Nm).

(c) Mechanical sensitivity (friction)

Butyl benzotriazole sodium salt did not explode, burst into flame or exhibit crepitation in any of the six tests and is therefore not sensitivite to friction (sensitivity >360N)
