Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Amides, C16-C18 (even), N,N'-ethylenebis is not readily biodegradable (5.5% after 28 days, OECD 301B). The substance is not soluble in water (WS < 0.000005 mg/L) and has a high potential for adsorption to soil particles as indicated by log Koc values of 7.87 – 8.91 calculated for the main substance components (KOCWIN v2.00). The available acute and chronic toxicity tests on aquatic toxicity indicated no toxicity to freshwater organisms.

The substance characteristics indicate that the substance will be removed in the primary settling tank of fat trap of STPs or by sorption to sludge solids. Therefore, the release via STP effluent is expected to be negligible. Volatilisation and subsequent transport through the atmosphere are unlikely because of the low vapour pressure of the substance 2.3E-07 hPa (20 °C). The substance data indicate a low probability of exposure of the soil compartment. If soil organisms are exposed, it is most likely by surface contact and soil particle ingestion. In order to cover this potential exposure, a long-term toxicity test with earthworms according to OECD 222 was conducted (in accordance with the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7c, (ECHA, 2017)). The available study determined no detrimental effects on Eisenia fetida. The reported NOEC (56 d) was ≥ 1000 mg/kg dry soil.

Based on the substance characteristics and the results of the available long-term toxicity test, the substance is not considered toxic to terrestrial organisms.
