Description of key information

Sulphuric acid, compound with graphite is an inorganic solid, consisting of natural graphite and variable amounts of intercalated sulphuric acid. Comparing physico-chemical properties and structural elements of sulphuric acid, compound with graphite to the features of substances, known to be pyrophoric or flammable, indicates that sulphuric acid, compound with graphite is highly unlikely to display pyrophoric or flammable properties.
Long-term experience in manufacturing, handling and use of the substance further confirm that flammability is not a concern for sulphuric acid, compound with graphite. Sulphuric acid, compound with graphite is used as flame retardant additive for plastics and foams.
Against this background and due to the inherent properties of sulphuric acid, compound with graphite (no relevant functional groups known to contribute to flammability) it can be concluded that pyrophoricity, flammability on contact with water and flammability in general are not a concern for sulphuric acid, compound with graphite. Hence, performance of a study to determine the flammability is considered not to be necessary.
