Description of key information

Price et. al, 2008 , Rogers et al, 2011 and Price et al, 2011 performed gene expression analyis in an ex vivo porcine skin model after dermal expsoure to undiltued bromine for either 45 s or 8 min and sampling times of 24 h and 7 d after exposure, bromine vapours for 10 and 20 min, followed by sampling after 48 h and and bromine vapors for 7 or 17 min followed by sampling after 6h, 48h or 7 days.  The studies were perfomed to identify the mode of action and wound healing pathways involved after bromine induced burns as a starting point for a specific therapeutic treatment of accidental burns. Transcript analysis and Ingenuity pathway analysis was performed. Expression analysis revealed that the exposure duration had less effect on the transscript changes than the sampling time in all three experiments.  Gene expression that was altered involved genes involved in inflammatory reactions and wound healing in a sequential manner.The changes were indicative of inflammatory and wound healing pathway activation.
