Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance
At ambient temperature and pressure, Di-Pentaerythritol is an odourless, white crystalline solid (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Melting point
The melting point of Di-Pentaerythritol is 492 K (218.6 °C) (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Boiling point
No clear boiling point could be determined for Di-Pentaerythritol. Decomposition was observed at 373 °C (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Density
The relative density of Di-Pentaerythritol is 1.36 at 20 °C (relative to water at 4 °C) (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Granulometry
93% of Di-Pentaerythritol is in the inhalable fraction (< 100 µm). 100% of Charmor DP 15 2 is in the inhalable fraction (< 100 µm) (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009)
Vapour pressure
Since the vapour pressure is low with both calculation methods (SPARC and MPBPWIN), Di-Pentaerythritol is not likely to vapourise and become airborne. The highest calculatated value is 2.3 x10^-10 Pa (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Partition coefficient
The partition coefficient (log Kow) for Di-Pentaerythritol is -1.8 at 23 °C (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Water solubility
The solubility of Di-Pentaerythritol in water is 2.4 g/L at 20°C (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Surface tension
The surface tension of Di-Pentaerythritol is 71 mN/m at 20°C (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Flash point
In accordance with REACH Annex VII, column 2 of data requirement 7.9 Flash point, the study does not need to be conducted because the flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting point solids. These criteria do not apply to the test substance which is a solid with a high melting point. The relevant endpoint is covered by IUCLID section 4.13 (flammability).
Autoflammability
No self-ignition of Di-Pentaerythritol was found below 400 °C (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Flammability
Di-Pentaerythritol (Charmor DP15) is non flammable (Analytical Chemistry, Perstorp Holding AB, 2009).
Explosiveness
In accordance with REACH Annex VII, column 2 of data requirement 7.11 Explosive properties, the study does not to be conducted, because Di-Pentaerythritol does not contain chemical groups associated with explosive properties. Therefore, testing for explosive properties of the test item is considered to be scientifically unjustified. Di-Pentaerythritol is therefore not classified as an explosive substance.
Oxidising properties
In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, section 7.13., the study does not need to be conducted because the substance Di-Pentaerythritol does not contain chemical groups which are associated with oxidizing properties and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
Stability in organic solvents
The stability in organic solvents is not considered critical to ensure confidence in other test results for other endpoints. Therefore testing is not needed to be conducted according to REACH Annex VII, column 2 of data requirement 7.15 Stability in organic solvents.
Dissociation constant
In accordance with REACH Annex VII, column 2 of data requirement 7.16 Dissociation constant, the dissociation constant does not have to be conducted for substances that lack ionisable functional groups.
Viscosity
In accordance with REACH Annex VII, column 2 of data requirement 7.17 Viscosity, the study does not have to be conducted because the substance is a solid.
Additional physico-chemical information
Di-Pentaerythritol standard product is specified as "normally ignitable" and Di-Pentaerythritol micronized is specified as "especially ignitable" (IBExU Institut fur Sicherheitstechnik GmbH, Perstorp Specialty Chemicals AB, 2008).
