READ ACROSS CATEGORY APPROACH
A category group was formed with dipotassium peroxodisulphate (KPS), disodium peroxodisulphate (SPS) and diammonium peroxodisulphate (APS). Several physico-chemical, fate, ecotoxicological and toxicological endpoints were assessed using the category approach. Description of key information

No studies on toxicity to microorganisms with dipotassium persulfate were available. A read across approach was applied to studies with diammonium persulfate, as the substance shows similar ecotoxicological properties. The toxicity of microorganisms to diammonium persulfate was tested in a study according to guidelines NEN 6509 and NPR 6508. The study revealed an EC10 (18 h) of 36 mg/L.

No study on toxicity to microorganisms with dipotassium persulfate was available. Instead a read across approach was applied to assess the toxicity to microorganisms using data available for diammonium persulfate, a substance considered to exhibit comparable ecotoxicological properties. In the key study the toxicity of diammonium persulfate to the gram negative bacterium Pseudomonas putida was determined in a growth inhibition test according to guidelines NEN 6509 and NPR 6508. Bacteria were exposed in a static test to concentrations of diammonium persulfate up to 100 mg/L. The study revealed an EC10 (18 h) of 36 mg/L.
