Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriate low concentrations. IC20 (3h) > 100 mg/L (nominal) for activated sludge (OECD 209)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The influence on the respiration of microorganisms was investigated for one ‘yellow disazo condensation pigment’ (CAS 5580-57-4) in a guideline study according to OECD 209 (Solvias AG, 2000). The study was conducted with activated sludge from a municipal sewage treatment plant, which predominantly receives domestic sewage. Up to the highest test concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal) no inhibition on respiration observed after 3 hours of exposure.
