Description of key information

Flammability: the substance is a flammable solid (EU method A.10.) when technically brought to a granular or solid form. The substance is solely marketed in a non solid or non granular form with 73.2 % water content (1.67 % in the tested powder).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The preliminary screening test was performed and shows propagation over a distance of 200 mm into the specified time. Therefore the full test program was carried out. The shortest time to propagate burning for a 100 mm powder train, was 22 seconds with a burning rate of 4.5 mm/s. Therefore the substance is considered to be a flammable solid.

The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not liberate flammable gases on contact with water.

The substance has a hygroscopic character and is solely marketed in a non solid or non granular form only (as paste with 73.2 % water), the flammability was tested with a powder of 1.67 % water content.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures, the substance is considered to be a flammable solid and would be categorised as Category 2 in the solid form (1.67 % water content). The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not liberate flammable gases on contact with water. However, the substance has a hygroscopic character and is solely marketed in a non solid or non granular form (73.2 % water content). No risk of flammability is expected with the non solid form of the test substance.
