Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Calcium Bromide: Acute oral toxicity test in the rat
Calcium Bromide: Acute inhalation toxicity study in rats
Calcium Bromide: Acute dermal toxicity studies in rabbits

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
2 210 mg/kg bw

Additional information

The information about the acute toxicity of calcium bromide is derived from various sources. The acute oral LD50 of calcium bromide was found to be 2210 mg/kg bw in the rat (male/female) in a study comparable to EPA OTS 798.1175 (Allen, 1996). An additional study (Bier, 1980) reports an acute oral LD50 value of 4450 mg/kg bw in the rat (male/female).

Inhalation exposure of rats for 1 hour to a dust atmosphere of Calcium Bromide at calculated concentration of 204 mg/l did not result in any observable toxic effects during or after the exposure.

An acute dermal toxicity study showed an LD50 >200 mg/kg bw for Calcium bromide in New-Zealand White rabbits.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Calcium bromide was found to be non-toxic through oral, dermal and inhalation routes.
