Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

All twenty animals in the Test Group reacted to the Challenge application with Grades 1 to 3 in severity. A Grade 3 reaction was produced in 4/20 animals in the Test Group. Nine of the ten Naive Control animals reacted with a Grade 1 or 2 severity. Reactions in the Test Group which were stronger than the reactions seen in the Naive Control Group are considered sensitization responses. Therefore, the four animals in the Test Group which reacted with a Grade 3 level are considered sensitized.

Guinea Pig Maximization Study with Calcium Bromide

Justification for classification or non-classification

Calcium bromide is not a sensitizer. Only 20% of the animals responded to the test material with reactions stronger than the control group. According to directive 67/548/EEC a substance should be classified as sensitizing if "a response of at least 30% of the animals is considered positive".
