Additional information

No experimental studies investigating the bioaccumulation potential ofSorbitan monolaurate, ethoxylated (CAS No. 9005-64-5) are available. Therefore, the bioaccumulation factor (BCF) of the substance was estimated using a reliable QSAR model (BCFBAF v3.01; Kampara, 2012). The substance is in the applicability domain of the model indicating that the results are reliable and can be used to assess the bioaccumulation potential ofSorbitan monolaurate, ethoxylated.Using the Arnot-Gobas method, including biotransformation (BCFBAF v3.01), BCF values from 1.2 to 7.1 were calculated for the main constituents (Kampara, 2012). An exclusion of biotransformation resulted in a higher BCF of 2.7 - 758 L/kg, indicating that extensive metabolism occurs and significantly reduces the bioaccumulation potential in a short period of time. The QSAR estimated biological half-life is 0.008 days (corresponding to approx. 12 min). For a detailed review on metabolism of the substance, please refer to the toxicokinetics statement in IUCLID section 7.1. Based on the valid QSAR calculation, it can be concluded thatSorbitan monolaurate, ethoxylatedhas a low potential for bioaccumulation. The calculated BCF values are clearly below the trigger value of 2000 L/kg to be classified as bioaccumulative (B-criterion) in the PBT assessment.
