Short-term studies with Sorbitan monolaurate, ethoxylated (CAS No. 9005-64-5) are available for fish and algae. For daphnia, a long-term study is available. According to column 2 of Annex VIII 9.2.2.1 of Regulation (EC) No1907/2006, a short-term study with aquatic invertebrates is not required if a long-term study is available. The acute EL50 values were >100 mg/L and 58.8 mg/L for fish and algae, respectively. For algae an ErL10 of 19.1 mg/L was obtained, and for the chronic daphnia study a NOELR of 10 mg/L. Based on the available data, daphnia is thus the most sensitive organism. Fish was the least sensitive of the tested organisms, and a long term fish study is, therefore, not considered necessary. The toxicity of Sorbitan monolaurate, ethoxylated to activated sludge microorganisms was tested in the toxicity control of the ready biodegradation study. No effect on the activated sludge was observed.
