Description of key information

In a study on an aquatic ecosystem after exposure to the testsubstance (14C-labelled), radio activity was recovered in the tested organisms (Water flea, green filamentous algae, snails, mosquito larvae and mosquito fish) after 24 hours. Most of the radioactivity present was identified as beeing metabolites of the test substance. This is indicative for rapid metabolism of the test substance when entering aquatic organisms. The bioaccumulation is expected to be low, which is also seen in several other studies on algae and in fish (Mallhot 1987, Freitag 1985). No BCF could be derived and therefore a calculation based on the logKow will be used in a worst case approach.

Additional information

The results are insufficient to derive a BCF, but based on the the information available, it can be concluded that the BCF is expected to be low. In addition according to REACH Annex IX section 9.3.2 Column 2 this study can be waived if the substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation (for instance a log Kow <3). The Log Kow of the test substance was calculated as 1.88 by EPA's tool "KOWWIN Program (v1.67)", which indicate low potential for bioaccumulation.
