Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.14 (Explosive properties)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Parameter:
thermal sensitivity - Koenen test: diameter of the orifice plate
Remarks on result:
not thermal sensitive if heated under defined confinement
Key result
Parameter:
sensitiveness to impact: impact energy (J)
Remarks on result:
not sensitive to impact using an impact energy of 40 J
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
No signs of an explosive reaction could be observed in any of the tests.
Therefore, the test item Caramel Colour (E150c) is considered as “not explosive under the conditions of guideline EU A.14”. As the test item is a liquid the test for mechanical sensi-tivity (friction) was not applicable in accordance with the guideline EU A.14.
The guideline does not cover the explosive properties of dust consisting of test item (resp. mixtures of dust and air). Therefore, the result is stated as “under the conditions of guide-line EU A.14”
