Description of key information

Vat Black 25 is a solid under all environmental conditions and the main component of the substance is not soluble in water or in other organic solvents. Therefore, the substance is unlikely to distribute to water compartments and adsorption to soil/sediment is not expected. The substance is predicted to have a low volatility therefore it is not predicted to partition to air.

The main component of the substance is predicted using QSAR to be not readily biodegradable. A hydrolysis study has not been conducted because the substance is insoluble in water. It is concluded, therefore, that abiotic and biotic processes would not contribute significantly to the depletion of the substance within the environment.

A calculated log Kow of 10 or above is taken as an indicator of reduced bioaccumulation. The main component of the substance has a calculated log Kow value of 12.23 therefore the test substance is not predicted to be bioaccumulative. In addition, the substance has a low solubility in n-octanol (< 22 mg/L). Therefore, possible bioaccumulation in the food chain is not anticipated.
