Additional information

The acute toxicity of NOP (CAS 2687 -94 -7) to fish was studied according to EPA OPP 72 -1 under GLP (GAF Chemicals Corp., 1991; report no. 164A-102A). The test species was Oncorhynchus mykiss. The fish were exposed for 96 hours under flow-through conditions. The test concentrations were analytically verified. The 96 -h LC50 was determined to be 17.8 mg/L (measured; 95% CL: 15.2 - 27.2 mg/L).

This result is supported by a GLP test according to EU method C.1 using Danio rerio as test species (BASF AG, 1992; report no. 17F0453/915096). The test was performed under static conditions. The test concentrations were analytically verified. At test start the concentrations were between 98 and 105% of nominal values. At test end (96 h), the recovery was lower (33 to 97%); therefore, the geometric mean measured concentrations were used to derive the LC50. In the highst concentration all fish wree dead after one hour of exposure, while none of the fish died in the other test levels. Therefore, the LC50 was calculated as the geometric mean of the LC0 (16.8 mg/L) and the LC100 (45.1 mg/L) based on mean measured concentrations (geometric mean). The 96 -h LC50 was 27.5 mg/L (meas.).

It can be concluded that NOP (CAS 2687 -94 -7) is acutely harmful to fish.
