The hydrolytic stability of NOP (CAS 2687 -94 -7) was studied in two tests.

One study (GAF Corp., 1991; report no. SC900133) was performed according to EPA Guideline Subdivision N 161-1 (Hydrolysis). The test was performed using radiolabelled test material. After 30 d, the recovery was 99.7 to 100.6% of applied radioactivity at pH 5, 7, and 9. This study showed that the substance is stable in abiotic aquatic environments. At pH 7, the DT50 was concluded to be 1000 d.

The other study was run according to OECD 111 (BASF AG, 1992; report no.91.19.9). The hydrolytic stability was teted at pH 4, 7, and 9 as well as in unbuffered test medium at pH 6.55. The experiment was run for approximately 120 hours. The preliminary test showed that NOP is hydrolytically stable at pH 4 to 9 at 50 °C; therefore, no further testing is necessary.

According to Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, Annex VIII, Section 9.2.2.1, column 2, the study does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable. NOP is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria (OECD 301F: > 80% BOD/ThOD after 28 d; BASF AG, 1992; report no. 91/1784/26/1; see IUCLID Ch. 5.2.1).
