Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Under the conditions of this study, the 72-hour ErC50 was 246 mg/L with 95 % confidence limits of 220 to 277 mg/L. The NOEC at 72 hours was 47.0 mg/L based on the specific growth rate and biomass data.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
246 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
47 mg/L

Additional information

The acute toxicity of the test material to the freshwater algal strain Scenedesmus subspicatus was investigated in accordance with the standardised guidelines OECD 201 and EU Method C.3 under GLP conditions. The study was awarded a reliability score of 1 in accordance with the criteria set forth by Klimisch et al. (1997).

Following a preliminary test which included a limit and a range-finding test, for the definitive test seven concentrations of the test material were used together with a control at nominal concentrations of 0, 4.41, 9.70, 21.3, 47.0, 103, 227 and 500 mg/L under static conditions. Three replicates were exposed to each concentration and six replicates to dilution water only for 72 hours. Observations of cell growth were recorded at 24, 48 and 72 hours. Chemical analysis was undertaken to measure the concentration of the test material in each test solution of the definitive test (except for the control).

The measured concentrations of the test material were within ± 20 % of the nominal concentration in each test solution, therefore all effects are based on nominal concentrations. The 72-hour ErC50 was determined to be 246 mg/L with 95 % confidence limits of 220 to 277 mg/L. The 72-hour EbC50 value was determined to be 160 mg/L with 95 % confidence limits of 145 to 178 mg/L. The NOEC at 72 hours was 47.0 mg/L based on the specific growth rate and biomass data.
