Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Hydrolysis product ethanol: With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
Hydrolysis product HCl: Acutely very toxic for aquatic invertebrates (pH dependent).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There are no data available regarding the toxic effect of the parent compound to aquatic invertebrates. The hydrolysis product ethanol was tested in a acute toxicity test with Ceriodaphnia dubia following ASTM Standard E729 -80. The resulting EC50 (48 h) was 5012 mg/L, indicating no harmful effects (OECD, 2005).

The hydrolysis product HCl showed acutely very toxic effects due to low pH: EC50 (48 h) = 0.492 mg/L (OECD, 2002).
