Description of key information

Hydrolysis product ethanol: With high probability acutely not harmful to fish.
Hydrolysis product HCl: Acutely toxic to fish (pH dependent).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Parent compound: 96-h LC0 = 47 mg/L (Bayer AG, 1996). Ethyl chloroformate hydrolyses rapidly to ethanol, HCl and CO2. Hydrolysis product ethanol: 96-h LC50 = 13000 / 14200 mg/L (OECD, 2005).

Hydrolysis product HCl: 96 -h LC50 = 4.92 mg/L (OECD, 2002)
