Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

There are no measured BCF values available for N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine. Therefore, log Kow was determined using EPI Suite. Due to the very low n-octanol/water distribution coefficient (log Kow: -1,43) of N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine, which is below 4,5, an accumulation in organisms is not expected. Therefore, the substance is not considered as bio accumulative (B) or very bio accumulative (vB).

Experimental ecotoxicity data are available for N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine. Acute and chronic toxicity values of algae, the most sensitive species to N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine, were above 0,1 mg/L (ErC10 = 8,03; ErC50 = 32,3 mg/L). Therefore, N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine does not meet the criteria for toxicity (T).

No degradation simulation studies are available for N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine. Although the results of an OECD 301F ready biodegradability study showed no biodegradation (0% after 28 days) of the substance, it is not considered necessary to further evaluate persistence. N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine does not meet the criteria for B or vB or T, wherefore no further evaluation of persistence is required.

N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine is not considered a PBT/vPvB.
