Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No data are available on the toxicity of DEA acetate to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria, but studies on two structurally-related compounds determined that the 72- and 96-hr EC50 values were greater than 100 mg/L for freshwater algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
100 mg/L

Additional information

No studies were available on DEA acetate, but the toxicity of two structurally-related substances to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria has been assessed in two reliable guideline studies.

A 96-hr static test on freshwater algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) has been conducted using RA2 at up to 100 mg/L. No reduction in growth rate or inhibition of yield was observed. The 96-hr EC50 was greater than 100 mg/L (Bouwman, 2010b).

RA2 was investigated in a 72-hr static test on freshwater green algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus). Concentrations of up to 100 mg/L (nominal) were tested. No inhibitory effect on growth was observed, and no microscopic differences in algal cell shape were seen. The 72-hr EC50 for algal biomass and growth rate was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L (Grutzner, 1997c).
