First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove subject from contaminated area to fresh air immediately. If subject is not breathing give artificial respiration. If subject's breathing is difficult give oxygen. Seek immediate medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting upper and lower eye lids to ensure that no material is allowed to remain in the eye. Seek immediate medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and shoes, flush skin with water and soap for at least 15 mins. Seek immediate medical attention. Wash any contaminated clothing before re-use.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: In case of fire use water spray, dry chemical, carbon dioxide or appropriate foam. Cool containers with plenty of water until well after fire is out.

Product arising from burning: Phenol, Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen oxide and other noxious fumes.

Protective equipment: Use self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear appropriate PPE equipment during cleanup. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Ventilate area well.

Small spills: For residual trace or small spills, wipe away spill.

Large spills: For large spills, sweep or shovel into secure containers for later disposal.

Avoid release to watercourse, soil and drains.

Handling and storage

Handling: Handle with appropriate personal protective equipment under ventilation. Avoid rising dust. Wash thoughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and

clothing. Keep containertightly closed. Avoid ingestion and inhalation.

Storage: Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Do not store with incompatable materials such as acids, bases, oxidising agents, and reducing agents. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame.

Exposure controls / personal protection

ENGINEERING MEASURES

Provide adequate ventilation. Observe occupational exposure limits and minimize the risk of inhalation of dust.

RESPIRATORY EQUIPMENT

No specific recommendation made, but protection against nuisance dust must be used when the general level exceeds 10 mg/m3.

HAND PROTECTION

Use suitable protective gloves if risk of skin contact.

EYE PROTECTION

Wear approved safety goggles.

HYGIENE MEASURES

DO NOT SMOKE IN WORK AREA! Wash at the end of each work shift and before eating, smoking and using the toilet. Wash promptly if skin becomes contaminated. Promptly remove any clothing that becomes contaminated. When using do not eat, drink or smoke.

Stability and reactivity

STABILITY

Stable under normal temperature conditions.

CONDITIONS TO AVOID

Avoid excessive heat for prolonged periods of time.

MATERIALS TO AVOID

Avoid contact with oxidisers or reducing agents. Avoid contact with acids and alkalis.

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS

Fire or high temperatures create: Phenol, Carbon monoxide, Carbon dioxide, Nitrogen oxide and other noxious fumes.

Dust explosion: Under normal conditions of use this material does not present a significant risk of dust explosion hazard.

Disposal considerations

Dispose of waste and residues in accordance with local authority requirements. In event of accidental spillage, substance is recoverable as it is solid in nature. The substance must then be sent to incineration.
