Additional information

Based exclusively on one study report on biodegradation in water (L'Haridon, 2003), the aerobic biodegradation of CHIMEXANE NV was studied in a ready biodegradation test according to OECD Guideline 301B and EU Method C4 -C under GLP.

The biodegradation of test substance attained 88% on Day 28 based on CO2 evolution. The 10-day window started on Day 5 and the test substance attained 69% of biodegradation on Day 15.

The percentage of biodegradation of the toxicity control was determined at 84% based on CO2 evolution after 28 days of exposure. The percentage of biodegradation of the reference substance (acetic acid, sodium salt) attained 16% on day 4, 60% on day 14 and 84% on day 28 (based on CO2 evolution). The reference substance attained 89% of biodegradation. Experimental results on the reference substance are compliant with the OECD Guideline No 301B requirements.

Under the conditions of this study, the test substance is considered as readily biodegradable in accordance with the classification system of the EU (Directive 67/548/EC, Regulation 1272/2008/EC).

This ready biodegradation study is classified as acceptable and satisfies the guideline requirement.
