Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
From 2014-03-07 to 2014-05-07
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. No deviation was reported. The substance is adequately characterised with its isomers composition. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:

Guideline:
EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
time lag before ignition not reported
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
DIN 51794 (Testing of mineral oil hydrocarbons - Determination of ignition temperature)
Version / remarks:
2003
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
inspection 22-23/01/2013, signature 22/03/2013
Key result
Auto-ignition temperature:
245 °C
Atm. press.:
1 005 - 1 014.8 hPa
Remarks on result:
other: accuracy: +/-5°C

In the preliminary test, the lowest temperature at which an ignition occurred was 262°C.

In the main test series 1, the lowest temperature at which an ignition occurred was 248°C.

In the main test series 2, the lowest temperature at which an ignition occurred was 251°C.

In the main test series 3, the lowest temperature at which an ignition occurred was 246°C.

Atmospheric Pressure: 1005.0 to 1014.8 hPa

According to observations in the main test series, the auto-ignition temperature rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5 °C was determined to be 245 °C.

Detailed determinations are available in the experimental report.

Conclusions:
This parameter/method is not relevant for classification, however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.
Executive summary:

The auto-ignition temperature of the test substance was measured, under GLP, according to DIN 51794 method (listed in EU A15 guideline).

The test material was injected into a heated flask, until the lowest temperature at which ignition occurs was determined, for different volumes. Three main test series were performed.

The measured auto-ignition temperature of the test substance was determined as 245 °C at 1005 -1015 hPa.

Description of key information

No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
245 °C

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized DIN/EC method and under GLP, is available. It is therefore considered as a key study. The result is retained as key data.

This parameter is not relevant for classification, however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
