Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Hydrazine mono-nitrate was positive in a reverse mutation bacterial study in vitro. No further genotoxicity tests have been performed due to waiving.

Hydrazine mono-nitrate is classifiable as Carc cat 2 under the DSD (Directive 67/548/EEC), or Carc 1b under CLP (Regulation 1272/2008) as per listing for 007-014-00-6 for Hydrazine Salts (group). Hydrazine Mono Nitrate is part of this group (CAS 13464-97-6).

Short description of key information:
In a reverse gene mutation assay in bacteria, strains TA98, TA100, TA1535 and TA 1537 of S. typhimurium were exposed to hydrazine nitrate, at concentrations of 0.03-3.0 mg/plate in the presence and absence of metabolic activation.
The positive controls induced the appropriate responses in the corresponding strains.   There was evidence of induced mutant colonies over background for the test substance.

This study is classified as acceptable.  This study satisfies the requirement for Test Guideline EPA OTS 798.5265 for in vitro mutagenicity (bacterial reverse gene mutation) data.

Endpoint Conclusion: Adverse effect observed (positive)

Justification for classification or non-classification

Hydrazine mono-nitrate is classifiable as Carc cat 2 under the DSD (Directive 67/548/EEC), or Carc 1b under CLP (Regulation 1272/2008) as per listing for 007-014-00-6 for Hydrazine Salts (group). Hydrazine Mono Nitrate is part of this group (CAS 13464-97-6). A genotoxicity classification is not part of this listing and data are insufficient to classify for germ cell mutations.
