Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

EC50 nominal (72 h) = 100 mg/L for Desmodesmus subspicatus (EU Method C.3 of directive 92/69/EEC)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a limit test according to Directive 92/69/EEC, C.3, with analytical monitoring, no toxic effect on growth rate of Desmodesmus subspicatus could be observed, thus the 72 h-EC50 (nominal) was = 100 mg/L (Bayer, 2003). Presumably due to pH and presence of catalytic ions, dimethyl phosphonate was hydrolysed completely to monomethyl phosphonate within about 0.5 h during the preparation of the test solutions. Monomethyl phosphonate remained stable during the test for 72 h, the geometric mean of the measured monomethyl phosphonate concentrations being 26 mg/L. DOC measurements confirmed the presence of virtually all organic carbon of the initial carbon content of dimethyl phosphonate.
