Conclusion on classification

Classification related key information

Readily biodegradable but failing 10-day window: 81% in 28 days (OECD 301B)

Acute aquatic toxicity:

-             Fish: no effects up to the limit of water solubility

-            Aquatic invertebrates: no effects up to the limit of water solubility

-            Algae: no effects up to the limit of water solubility

Chronic aquatic toxicity:

-            Algae: no effects up to the limit of water solubility

Conclusion on classification

The substance 2-Phenoxyethyl octanoate (CAS 23511-73-1) is readily biodegradable but failing ten day window. Test on the acute aquatic toxicity determined no effects up to the limit of water solubility. Furthermore the substance is considered as not chronically toxic (NOELR (72 h): >1 mg/L for algae). Thus, the substance does not need to be classified and labelled according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) considering all further amendments.
