Executive summary:

FAT 40171/A was evaluated for its potential to cause toxicity on short term exposure to fish. The test substance was exposed to two groups of zebra fish (each containing 10 fish each) at 300 and 1000 mg/L concentrations and observed for mortality for 96 hours. No mortality was observed throughout the test. Hence following results were obtained from the test:

LC0 (48 h, 96 h): >300 mg/l

LC50 (48 h, 96 h): >1000 mg/l

LC100 (48 h, 96 h): >1000 mg/l

Conclusions:

Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the acute toxicity of the test substance (at ca. 66.8 % purity) to zebra fish (Danio rerio). Groups of 10 fish were exposed at 300 or 1000 mg/L for a duration of 96 h. The number of surviving fish was recorded at 1, 4, 24, 48, 72 and 96 h. Mortality was observed only at the high dose, with one fish dying within 4 h. Under the test conditions, the 96 h LC0 was 300 mg/L (i.e. 200 mg a.i./L), whereas the 96 h LC50 and LC100 were both > 1000 mg/L (i.e. > 668 mg a.i./L).

Additional information

A study was conducted to determine the acute toxicity of FAT 40171 (at ca.

Few more studies performed in 1983, 1984 & 1988 reported LC50 (48 h & 96 h) to zebra fish as >1000 mg/l.

In conclusion, the test item FAT 40171 had no acute toxic effects on zebra fish under the present test conditions.
