Conclusion on classification

Based on the available data with the source substance lithium amide, the target substance lithium nitride does not need to be classified according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP) criteria as the acute (LC50/ ErC50) values are > 1 mg/L.

The chronic NOEC value of the algae study is above 1 mg/L. The acute effect concentrations of daphnia and algae are between 10 and 100 mg/L. Thus, lithium nitride needs to be classified and labelled as aquatic chronic cat. 3 (H412, Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects) according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP).

Data based on read-across from LiNH2

Short term toxicity: Invertebrates EC50 = 11.1 mg/L

Short toxicity: Algae ErC50 = 21.7 mg /L

Long term toxicity: Algae EC10 = 1.9 mg/L
