Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

N-(1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbutyl)acrylamide does not meet the criteria for B/vB and T based on criteria laid down in Annex XIII of REACH.

Persistence assessment

The best results in two ready biodegradability tests (OECD 301B and 301D) showed biodegradation percentages of approximately 30% at the end of the tests, strongly indicating that the test substance is only partially biodegraded. The branching of the tert-octyl chain of N-tert-octylacrylamide is probably the major reason for the recalcitrance to biodegradation in the test. Hydrolysis products, i.e. acrylic acid and some isomers of tert-octylamine are probably biodegradable. Thus the first reaction step (hydrolysis, possibly micro-organism mediated) is the rate-limiting step.

Based on the screening criteria the substance considered as potentially P (or vP).

Bioaccumulation assessment

As the log Kow of the test substance (2.25) is far below the screening cut-off level for 'B' (log Kow = 4.5), the substance is not considered to be B (or vB).

Toxicity assessment

The test substance does not meet the criteria for being Toxic (lowest NOEC is >0.1 mg/l; not classified for human toxicity endpoints), the substance is not considered to be 'T'.

Likely routes of exposure:

As N-(1,1,3,3 -tetramethylbytul)acrylamide is not considered as a PBT or vPvB substance, the likely routes of exposure are not further assessed.
