Additional information

Phosphorus trichloride reacts rapidly and exothermically with water or moisture to form hydrochloric acid and phosphoric acid. This reaction can be predicted at the site of contact in vivo or in test systems in vitro. Exposure will therefore be to the breakdown products of the substance and their dissociation products, which are physiologically ubiquitous ionic species.
