Equation 1 (Calculation for the density of water)

Mass of water / volume of pycnometer = Density of water

Equation 2 (Calculation for the density of immersion liquid)

ρIL = ( mIL/ mW ) x ρW,t

Where:

mIL is the mass of the immersion liquid

mW is the mass of water

ρW,tis the density of water at temperaturet

Calculated value for the density of immersion liquid = 957 kg.m-3 @ 20°C

Equation 3 (Calculation for the density of the sample)

ρS,t = (msρIL) / m1 – m2

Where:

ms is the mass, in grams, of the sample;

m1 is the mass, in grams, of immersion liquid required to fill the pycnometer;

m2 is the mass, in grams of immersion liquid required to fill the pycnometer

containing the specimen;

ρIL is the density of the immersion liquid (as determined by equation 1)

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Using the pycnometer method, under GLP and in accordance with A3 test method (EC 440/2008), THPC has a relative density of 1368 kg.m-3 at 20°C.
