Effects of the test item on reproduction of collembolans were determined at concentrations of 10, 32, 100, 316 and 1000 mg test item/kg dry weight of artificial soil. A quartz sand treated control group was also included. The study was performed with five replicates per treatment group and 10 parental collembolans per replicate. The test item caused 0, 2, 2, 0 and 2 % parental mortality at the test concentrations of 10, 32, 100, 316 and 1000 mg test item/kg d.w., respectively. 0 % parental mortality was observed in the control. No statistically significant effect (Fisher`s Exact Binomial Test, p > 0.05) on parental mortality was found for any concentration tested. The number of juvenile springtails counted four weeks after having introduced the parental collembolans into the test vessels was on average 416.0 in the control and 425.0, 425.8, 413.0, 423.6 and 399.4 in the test concentrations 10, 32, 100, 316 and 1000 mg test item/kg soil dry weight, respectively. No statistically significant effects (Dunnett-test, p > 0.05) on the number of juveniles compared to the control group were recorded at any concentration tested. The no-observed-effect-concentration (NOEC) was determined to be ≥ 1000 mg test item/kg soil dry weight. The EC50 could not be calculated, but it can be concluded that the EC50 is higher than 1000 mg test item/kg soil dry weight, the highest tested concentration.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
No statistically significant effect (Fisher`s Exact Binomial Test, p > 0.05) on parental mortality was found for any concentration tested.
