Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time over 250 mm for metal powders or metal alloys
Remarks on result:
other: test substance could not be ignited with a flame during the pretest

Blue MGi 1037 (EC 438 -610 -8) could not be ignited with a flame during the pretest (contact time about 2 min). Therefore no main test was performed. Blue MGi 1037 is not "highly flammable".

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across source
Key result
Test procedure:
burning time over 250 mm for metal powders or metal alloys
Remarks on result:
other: test substance could not be ignited with a flame during the pretest
Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
flammable gases
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

Description of key information

Key study- flammable solids: Read across

The flammability of the source substance Blue MGi 1037 (EC 438 -610 -8) was investigated in a study conducted according to EU-Method A.10. In a preliminary test, the test substance could not be ignited with a flame. Therefore the main test was not performed. Based on the results, the test substance is not a highly flammable solid according to the criteria of the guideline.

Based on the structure similarity, it is expected that the target substance Blue MGi 1037 Na salt (EC 473 -160 -6) will not be highly flammable, either.

Furthermore, the test substance is no flammable gas, liquid and aerosol or emits flammable gases in contact with water. The substance has no pyrophoric properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008

The available data are reliable and suitable for classification purposes under Regulation 1272/2008. As a result the substance is not considered to be classified for flammable gases, liquids and solids, aerosols, self heating and pyrophoric properties and as emitting flammable gases in contact with water under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the tenth time in Regulation (EU) No 2017/776.
