Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No experimental data are available for 4,4'-methylenebis(2,6-xylidine) (CAS 4073 -98 -7). To assess the toxicity to aquatic algae, read across was made to the analogue substance 4,4'-methylenebis(2-methylaniline) (CAS 838 -88 -0).

A study following the German Industrial Standard DIN 38412, part 9 was performed by BASF to test the toxicity of 4,4'-methylenebis(2-methylaniline) to Desmodesmus subspicatus. The study was statistically re-evaluated using the program ToxRatPro (v2.10) and is considered valid. Based on growth rate, the 72 -h EC50 and the 72 -h EC10 are 6.104 mg/L and 0.260 mg/L, respectively. The 72 -h NOEC was determined to be < 0.020 mg/L (BASF AG, 1988, project no.: 2/0248/88).

Based on these results, the test substance is expected to be acutely toxic to aquatic algae.
